Team Audition Information

Dear TDC Families and Dancers,
We are very excited to announce it is time to start considering auditions for Team TDC!

We will be holding auditions on Thursday, May 2nd, 2019 at The Dance Center. Please emailofficemanager@dancecarmel.com if you are interested in being considered for the audition. Your interest will be discussed with your teachers; level, attendance, placement, etc. will be taken into account. The front desk will then reach out to you with audition information.

We will be placing dancers for multiple levels of Jazz / Contemporary Teams, Acro Team(s), Ballet Team(s), Tap Team, Hip Hop Team. Please be sure to indicate in your email to the Front Desk what team you are interested in being considered for auditions.

Please know acceptance and commitment, to one or multiple teams, is for the entire year: May choreography sessions (TBD), August choreography sessions (TBD), and August 2019- May 2020 (including recital). This helps our team members to understand and learn the importance of teamwork, growth, and responsibility.

If this is something you are interested in for your dancer please be sure to read the upcoming paragraphs. Please make sure you are able to say YES! to the following.

Can you commit to the following class requirements and weekly attendance?

Mini Team- 1 ballet class per week, 1 jazz class per week, 1 turns / jumps / strengthening class per week, 2 one-hour team rehearsal classes per week. Mini team will compete two dances at convention and competition.

Junior Team- 1 ballet class per week, 1 jazz class per week, 1 two-hour team class per week, 1 turns / jumps / strengthening class per week, 1 other class (strongly recommend two ballet classes per week and/or two jazz classes, or contemporary). Junior team will compete two dances at convention and competition.

Youth Team- 1 ballet class per week, 1 jazz class per week, 1 two-hour team class per week, 1 turns / jumps / strengthening class per week, 1 other class (strongly recommend two ballet classes per week and/or two jazz classes, or contemporary). Youth team will compete two dances at convention and competition.

Teen Team- 2 ballet classes per week, 1 jazz class per week, 1 turns / jumps / strengthening class per week, 1 two-hour team class per week. Teen Team will be competing two dances at convention and competition.

Tween Team- 2 ballet classes per week, 1 jazz class per week, 1 additional class per week, 1 turns, jumps and strengthening class per week, 1 two hour team class per week. Tween team will be competing 4 dances at convention and competition.

Senior Team- 2 ballet classes per week, 1 jazz class per week, 1 additional class per week, 1 turns, jumps and strengthening class per week, 1 two hour team class per week. Senior team will be competing 4 dances at convention and competition.

Acro Team- 1 ballet or jazz class per week, 1 or more acro classes per week, 1 turns, jumps and strengthening class per week, 1 acro team class per week. Acro team will compete one piece at convention and competition.

Ballet Team- 2-3 ballet classes per week, 1 additional class of pointe or contemporary, 1 team ballet class per week. Ballet Team will compete one piece at convention and competition. All Ballet Teams will be competing at an additional Convention/Competition called Youth America Grande Prix (held in February or March, FYI)

Tap Team- 1-2 tap classes per week, 1 tap team class per week, 1 ballet or jazz class per week. Tap team will compete one piece at convention and competition.

Hip Hop Team- 1 jazz class per week, 1-2 hip hop classes per week, 1 hip hop team class, 1 body power class per week. Hip Hop team will compete one piece at convention and competition.

Can you commit to the following financial aspects of team? (Hotel, travel, and food excluded)

Fees:

Team Acceptance Admin Fee

A fee of $125.00 will be processed with each team member’s acceptance to team TDC and is non-refundable. This fee will help to cover a very small portion of costs and team coaches travel/needs for all four competitions and conventions.

1 convention per year:
$25.00 registration fee
$255.00 class fee for all classes (Sat and Sunday) $55.00-65.00 per competition piece entry fee

3 competitions per year:
$25.00 registration fee
$45.00-50.00 per competition piece entry fee

Choreography fee per group dance: $125.00-$150.00 per piece

Team jacket (does not have to be replaced every year): $135.00

Team Costumes:
$95.00-110.00 per piece. We attempt to keep the price as low as possible for the quality of costume necessary to compete.

NON-REFUNDABLE TEAM COSTS:

All competition fees, team fees, group choreography, costumes, solo choreo/small/group duet are nonrefundable (for any reason inclusive of medical leave, moving, and injury).

Competitions (nonrefundable):
For competition, we are required to pay in full months ahead of time to reserve our space. Thank you for paying your competition fees on time as we have already paid for your child. We are not refunded from the competition companies for any reason.

Choreography (nonrefundable):
For choreographers, they are under contract and paid per child for a group choreography and your child’s fee (or solo/duet/trio fee). Your child fees combine to meet their minimum (especially if they are flying in). This means not showing up to choreography or deciding not to do team, even at the start of the year, still results in paying the choreographer for your child in whatever they have previously committed to do.

When your child accepts a space onto a team (if offered) and commitments to “extras” like a solo/duet/small group, ensure it is a sincere YES for the duration of the year.

5:00-5:30 Hip Hop Auditions (Int Level and Above)
5:00-5:30 Ballet Team Auditions (Ballet 2 and Above)
5:30-6:00 Tap Team Auditions (Int Level and Above)
6:00-6:30 Acro Team Auditions (Int Level and Above)
6:30-6:50 Beginning Level and Advanced Beginning Level Contemporary and Jazz Dancers (age 6 and up with one year of ballet/jazz/contemp or by invitation of director)

7:00-7:30 Intermediate Level Contemporary and Jazz Dancers
7:30-8:00 Intermediate Secondary Level Contemporary and Jazz Dancers 8:00-8:45 Advanced Intermediate & Advanced Contemporary and Jazz Dancers

*Please be advised that some dancers may be held over and asked to stay for the following audition. We hope you are able to be patient with us as we try to make sure we see the dancers grouped appropriately.

6/10/19-6/14/19 Ballet Intensive. We request all team members participate.

7/15/19-7/19/19 Acro and Hip Hop Intensives. We request all Acro team members participate in the Acro intensive and all Hip Hop team members participate in the Hip Hop Intensive

7/22/19-7/26/19 Jazz and Contemporary Intensive for all levels. We request all team members participate.

If your dancer is not able to attend the summer intensives requested for team members, due to a scheduled family vacation, we request team students make-up the equivalent number of hours missed from each intensive in summer classes. If you are away dancing at an intensive during the time of TDC’s intensive, those intensives void each other and makeup class time is not requested.

Team Make-up Class Policy 2019:

For 2019, is a revised make-up policy that assists in team growth. There is a 6 class make-up per month limit per student. The team class schedule is designed for ideal student growth when students attend their weekly class schedule.

For example, jazz and contemporary team members who miss ballet, make-up in ballet (not acro or hip-hop), students who miss contemporary make-up in contemporary, students who miss jazz make- up in jazz, and students who miss turns and jumps may make-up in a ballet, contemporary, or jazz class. Acro team members who miss acro, make-up in an acro class, etc. The team class schedule is intended to grow technique in class specific genre for your team.

Make-ups may be taken in a level BELOW or AT your current level. If no genre for genre trade exists for make-ups, a technique class in ballet, jazz, or contemporary will suffice. Absences from team classes (rehearsal) do not generate make-ups. Rehearsal cannot be made-up.

Solos, Duos, Trios, and Small Groups

AUDITIONS- Saturday, May 18th, 2019 3pm-5pm

As directors with MANY years of experience in competition, we strongly recommend auditioning for an additional piece only after participating on Team for one year. This will allow the dancer to have a better understanding of the time and team commitment without additional rehearsal and performance pressures.

If you are considering auditioning for a solo, duo, trio, or small group please be sure you can say YES! to the following:

  1. One 30-45 min additional rehearsal per week outside class for a jazz, contemporary, tap or hip- hop solo. Ballet private lessons one 1 hour private per week or 2 thirty min privates per week.
  2. Choreography Fee:
    1. Solo $350-$600 on average depending on choreographer
    2. Duet $200-$350 per dancer depending on choreographer
    3. Trio $150-$300 per dancer depending on choreographer
    4. Small Group prices vary depending on choreographer, usually around $150.00-200.00
    5. Studio rental for choreography $15.00 per hours for 3-5 hours.
  3. Costume Fee ranging from $100.00-$175.00 for costume, embellishment, and headpiece.
  4. Commitment to regular rehearsal with assigned team coach and possibly additional privatelessons if needed for dancer or dancers to be ready to compete.
  5. Commitment to attendance in all weekly classes.
  6. Additional Convention and Competition Fees:
    1. Solo $105.00-$135.00 per competition / convention
    2. Duet $60.00-$75.00 per competition / convention
    3. Trio $60.00-$75.00 per competition / convention
    4. Small Group $50.00-$65.00 per competition / convention

If you are able to commit to the additional requirements for an “extra” dance we would love to have you audition on Saturday, May 18th, 2019 3pm-5pm. A schedule will be set for you to audition for a solo and we will have all those interested in being considered for a duo/trio/small group come in one block time to be evaluated together. Please email your RSVP to officemanager@dancecarmel.com so we may schedule you an audition time.
We would like you to perform a 45 second piece for the judges to evaluate. This 45 second routine should be your current recital dance, part of a current team dance, or current solo/duo/trio. Extra rehearsals are not necessary for this audition.
Please bring your music with you on an iPad, iPhone, tablet, or other device. Dancers do not need to audition with a partner or group, even if their first choice is a duet / trio/ small group. Dancers will be evaluated and offered an additional piece that the judges feel compliments them best (solo, duo, trio, or group).
